Maria Doherty (Foundation Governor/ Chair of Governors)

I have been a foundation governor for four years and became Chair of Governors in November 2020.

I am a very active member of our parish and secretary to the Parish Pastoral Council. I am married and have two sons who both attended this school, many years ago! I retired as Deputy Headteacher in 2015 after working for over 35 years at this school and became a volunteer, working mostly, in the school library. I was delighted to be asked to become a foundation governor in 2017 to continue to serve the school community that I love. As a member of a very supportive governing body, I support the school in many ways, with particular involvement with Pupil Premium and my nominated class, Music and Year 5. My role as Chair of Governors also involves meeting regularly with the Headteacher, offering a ‘listening ear’ as needed. I hope to continue to support our school as we move forward from strength to strength.

 Jane Barnes (Headteacher)

My involvement with St. Wulstan’s & St. Edmund’s began in September 2018 with my first headship. Prior to this I was the Deputy Headteacher at St. Kentigern’s in Blackpool and before that I worked in Preston and Skelmersdale beginning my teaching career in 1993. My areas of specialism are Special Educational Needs, Religious Education and Music. Catholic Education is very important to me; all the schools that I have worked in have been Catholic and I am an active member of my parish, St. Anthony’s in Preston. I have been made to feel very welcome within the school and parish communities here at St. Wulstan’s & St. Edmund’s. I feel very privileged to lead the staff team and serve on the governing body as we continue to build and strengthen our school for the good of our pupils  and their families.

Lauren Breakell (Staff Governor)

I am a former pupil of St Wulstan’s and St Edmund's and have been a teacher here for over nine years. I have a three-year-old daughter who also attends the nursery at St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s. We are also part of St Wulstan’s parish.  During my time at St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s I have taught in Key stage one and two, I am currently teaching in year 3. I am also coordinator for Religious Education and history within school.  This is my first year as staff governor and I am proud to be part of the governing body. St Wulstan’s is very close to my heart so I am excited to take on a key role in our journey towards greatness!

Sarah Brooks (Co-opted Governor)

I am a mum to three children, two of which are current pupils at St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s and my third child will also be joining the school next year. I am a member of the Parish and I, too, also attended the school myself! In June 2019, I was appointed as a Co-opted Governor for the school, having previously served for four years as a Parent Governor. In January 2020, I joined the staff team at St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s as a teacher, English Co-ordinator and Upper School Leader. Prior to this, I had worked in a Blackpool Primary School for 8 years. With this background, I have a good knowledge and understanding of both the journey the school has been on in recent years and also the priorities for the school, going forward. I am proud to be part of a strong Governing Body who work as a team, with the best interests of the children at the heart of all they do. As a Governor, I will strive to continue to provide guidance and support to the school as it continues on its journey.

Karen Glass (Foundation Governor / Vice Chair of Governors)
I attended Saint Wulstan’s School myself in the 1960’s and I am so grateful for the education they gave me to go forward with my life. My two children also attended the School and was always encouraged by the staff to do as well as they were able. I now have two grandchildren who in a couple of years will also be attending the school.  The staff at St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s are fantastic and want only the best for all the children who attend the school. I have worked in social housing in the area for over 20 years and have always been active in the community to make the life of children better and fuller and also give them encouragement to go forward with their futures.

Karen Gotto (Foundation Governor)
I started my working life as a coffee shop Saturday worker In Boots at the age of 16 and 30 years on I am an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician, where I check the precision and validity of prescriptions that are sent out to care homes across the Fylde Coast. I have a strong personal connection to St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s Primary School and Church, as it is not only where my both of my daughters attended and thrived, but is also where I volunteer as a Eucharistic Minister and am a regular member of the congregation.

This therefore fits my role of foundation and church Governor perfectly, after undertaking the duty nine years ago when both daughters were pupils.

Mike Harding (Foundation Governor)

I am a former pupil of St Wulstan’s ( many years ago) and my children attended St Edmund’s school so I have a bit of history with both of the schools that merged in 2004 to become St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s.  I also currently have two grand-daughters attending the school with more to come. So, I have a great deal of affection for the school and every incentive to ensure that it is the best that it can possibly be. I am in my second, four year term as a foundation governor. It is a privilege to be in this position and, together with my fellow governors, oversee and support the fantastic work being carried out on behalf of our children and families by Mrs Barnes and her team. I’m also an active parishioner and regularly attend Mass at St Wulstan’s – pandemic permitting. Away from school I am a very keen supporter of Fleetwood Town & an armchair fan of Liverpool FC. Now retired, I was formerly a Civil Servant spending many happy years at Hesketh House before moving into the world of Information Technology. I worked for various public and private sector employers before finally taking early retirement in 2013. I then spent a further six years working for my wife in her small business – I’m sure that you can work out which employment had the most demanding boss!!

Father Alf Hayes (Foundation Governor)

I was ordained into the priesthood in 1972 and became the Parish Priest for St Wulstan's and St Edmund's in 2009.  I am one of the founding members of the Fleetwood Trust and am committed to the development of the Hospital project and the community hub. I helped develop and promote the Foodbank that has been a great support for people in food poverty. I visit the school regularly in my pastoral role and celebrate Mass and other liturgies with the children on a regular basis.

Claire lark (Parent Governor)

Tony Macdonald (Parent Governor)

Steve Mclaughlin (Foundation Governor)

I am a Foundation Governor, ensuring the Catholic ethos in school is maintained. I am EYFS and Sports Premium nominated Governor, which leads me to be in contact with senior leadership team and report back to the Governing Body. I also sit on various committees. My daily job as a Golf Club Professional involves teaching golf and operating my own retail outlet. This has led me to teach Golf in primary and secondary schools for both the school sports partnership and privately for many years; passing on skills to both children and teachers. St. Wulstan’s was my primary school and my two children were both pupils at the school.
I am a practising Catholic. I become a Governor because I want children to have the best education possible
in a safe environment. I will continue to challenge, support and contribute to the strategic leadership in school.

Lee Paddock (Co-opted Governor)

As a member of the Parish, I became a governor as I felt that I would be able to support the school alongside my wife Helen, who is a member of staff. I have over 30-years’ experience in the Armed Forces, having served in the regular Royal Navy for 8-years, the Royal Naval Reserve and latterly the British Army in Preston. It is the skills developed after my regular service however, that I felt would most help the school. Having retrained in place management and managed shopping centres, town and city centres I have experience in staff leadership, appraisals and disciplinary matters, budget management, revenue generation, marketing, event management and health and safety, having qualified as a NEBOSH health and safety practitioner in 2010. In my current role with the Army, I support soldiers and their families to prepare themselves for life after military service and work alongside local councils, businesses, the charity sector, NHS, government departments and Education providers. I see this role as a vocation in helping service personnel and their families and that was also the reason that I volunteered to be a co-opted member of the school governors. With my tales of the sea and travels (Helen says I am as bad as Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses), I made a good choice to be Governor lead for history, a member of the Resources Committee and a class governor for Year 1/2.

Jessica Pounds (nee North) (Foundation Governor)

I qualified as a Secondary School teacher in 2009 and was placed in a local secondary school in Fleetwood whilst training. I loved the community so much that I decided to relocate to the area from Lancaster and was appointed to Cardinal Allen Catholic High School where I have taught Religious Education ever since.

During my time at Cardinal Allen I have been lucky enough to see twelve cohorts of St Wulstans pupils arrive in Year 7 and had the privilege to watch them grow into young adults. In 2019 I was received into the Church and was overwhelmed by the support I received from the St Wulstans and St Edmunds Parish community. I am keen to use my experience in education to help drive and maintain high standards in the classroom and across the curriculum. I look forward to continue working with you all in promoting a thriving, happy school rooted in the Gospel values.

Bill Rogerson (Foundation Governor)
As a Parishioner of St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s and a member of the Parish Council, I have always believed that the school is at the heart of the community. I became a governor in August 2019 as I wanted to play an active role in the continued improvement of St Wustan’s and St Edmund’s in providing the pupils with a great education and an understanding of their social responsibility.  I am a qualified Health and Safety Practitioner with several years of experience across various companies and industries. I believe I can utilise this knowledge in my  role of governor to the benefit of the School.
