Year 1/2

Welcome to Key Stage 1

The Key Stage 1 phase is split into 3 classes:

Year 1 - Mrs Duckworth and Mrs Storton with our teaching assistant Mrs Gee

Year 1/2 - Mrs Keighley with our teaching assistant Mrs Channing

Year 2 - Miss Ormerod with our teaching assistant Mrs Bailie

Mrs Cook, Mr Fletcher and Mr Aris will be covering PPA on a Monday afternoon.

Every Tuesday there will be an opportunity to pop into class for our open door afternoon where you are encouraged to come to look at the children's work and talk about what they have been working on in class that week.

We also keep an open door policy and will be available to speak to most mornings and after school. If we are unable to meet with you during the morning or afternoon then please call the school office and we will try our best to arrange a meeting. The Class Dojos are also a great way to keep in touch and we will try our best to respond to messages as soon as possible during the day.

We are very busy in Year 1 and 2, learning lots of new concepts in Maths and learning to structure our sentences in exciting ways in English. We have many practical sessions during the week to help us become independent in our learning.

There are many websites we use in school that you can access here:

Sumdog

Topmarks Maths

Topmarks English

Phonics Play

ict games

Crickweb

Thank you

Key Stage 1 Team

Please find information regarding the SATs for KS1 that Year 2 take during the Summer Term (in May). There will be upcoming meetings regarding what to expect and how to support your children in their progress towards meeting the expected standards for Year 2.

Letters

Letters linked to the curriculum, for parents and carers.

Please remember to check your child's book bags for letters that go home as they often have important information on and sometimes permission slips.

The school Class Dojo app will often have information and reminders on. Please check in on the class story on a regular basis.

If you are not signed up, please get in touch with your child's class teacher. The link below will help if you are new to the app:

Home Learning and Spelling

Year 1 and 2 Home Learning

We will update this section with home learning activities.

We would like children to read at least 3 times a week, practise weekly spellings, complete activities on Sumdog and Teach Your Monster To Read, work on activities on phonics and maths packs that will be sent home with children.

The more frequently children can work on activities, even for a short time, supports their learning and helps embed the work they have been doing. Every little helps a lot!

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

Thank you,

The Key Stage 1 team

Homework and Spellings:

Current Home Learning and Spelling:

Please click on the group your child is in for their spellings. All children have the same homework.

If you are unsure which group they are in, please contact your child's teacher on Class Dojos.

Knowledge Organisers

What Are Knowledge Organisers?

Knowledge organisers are designed to make learning 'sticky'.

Children are to learn some basic facts about the topics they are covering and will be quizzed at the beginning, middle and end of a topic. Please support your child in learning the information as there will be mini quizzes after a topic to see how well they have retained the information.
